Procrastinator, I don't believe there is only doom and gloom on this thread. My reply and several others offered solid first hand experience. In a nutshell, the OP's truck is more capable than the half ton or even 3/4 ton of our dreams 15 years ago. It is one incredible truck. But, as ANY truck, it has a limit, and some of us have found it.
OP, funny, I'm selling my 2013 MaxTow, EB, SCREW to replace it with a Jeep. Although, you don't make it sound too enticing. Hahaha. Switched from the F150 and TT to a Class A so that we could get a Jeep out west. Lots of effort and expense, but oh how we enjoy backcountry exploring!
