My 5.4L V8 in my F250 at 310hp/360ft lbs is pretty close to you 5.3L. We have no trouble towing our 32.5', 7500~lb TT around the southeast. Keep in mind, even without a tuner, the 4.10 is going to increase horsepower and multiply torque by the percent difference from your previous gear ratio at equal road speed and transmission gear. I think you're going to be pleased with the results as is once you get the speedo calibrated.
Thanks, Hannibal. I'm going to be towing in the mountains and deserts of the southwest so I want all the help that I can get. I have to get a custom tune to recalibrate the speedo anyway so why not retune the whole engine? ;)
Here's a good example of what my new gears have shown me so far. Keep in mind they're still being broke in and I only have 100 miles of the needed 500 to start thinking about towing and changing out the break-in oil.
Usually my truck would downshift on a grade if my RPM's fell below 2000. Now I can run up the same grade in 4th gear at 1200 RPM's.
