New guy looking at f150 5.4 and 5.0
I haven't bought a trailer yet but looking in the 6500-7500 GVW . As far as a tow vehicle I was looking at either a 2010 f150 5.4 w/ 3.73 rear and max trailer package. Or a 2011 and up f150 with 5.0 ...

Either is a fine choice... Max trailer weight is not relevant IMHO because the 5.4 at the time was the best available in the F150.... The 5.0 while a stouter motor than the 5.4 was considered the second tier motor behind the Eco-Boost...not because the ecoboost is better but because Ford was pushing towards EcoBoost technology. I believe the lower max trailer weight has more to do with the ecoboost being available than the capability of the 5.0.
The 5.0 and the 5.4 with similar trucks (max tow, 3.73 gears) I would choose the 5.0..
However, in the end they are both fine motors and either will serve you fine.
