Agreed, you have to look at the figures on the curve, not just net/peak. All things being equal, the larger displacement engine will generically yield more torque. OTOH, if the 5.0L doesn't have cam phasers and those dang mile-long spark plugs, I'd opt for that. They're pretty close in any case. The 5.4 loves to spin to get the work done, but some people get tired of hearing it at 4K RPM's and up. I don't know if the 5.0 L is any different or not. I do know with 102K miles on my 07, I'm due for the $400 spark plug change. To my way of thinking that's absurd, but I'll be paying it.
