New guy looking at f150 5.4 and 5.0
I haven't bought a trailer yet but looking in the 6500-7500 GVW . As far as a tow vehicle I was looking at either a 2010 f150 5.4 w/ 3.73 rear and max trailer package. Or a 2011 and up f150 with 5.0 ...

The 5.0 and 5.4 are both really good motors.If given the choice I would choose the 5.0 because of the ability of the select shift transmission to lock out any of the upper gears as needed. The select shift transmission was not available with the 5.4 which is unfortunate. I own the 5.0 with 3.55's and really like it but I always lock out 6th when towing. In ideal conditions (no wind,flat ground) it will hold 6th without downshifting but seems to like 5th much better. I almost bought a 2011 f150 5.0 without the select shift transmission but didn't like the fact that I could only choose 4th(D) or 6th(OD) while pulling. I realize that if I had the 3.73's my truck would tow even better.
