OP QUOTE: "I was surprised to see a large deformation directly to the right of the forward roof vent and pointed it out to the tech, who noted "that doesn't look good" and continued on with re-caulking all the seams that were open."
The tech was caulking seams that were open ... say that again, "seams that were open". What new camper has open seams?
What seams that are open? That's a mind-boggling statement all on its own.
I suspect this is an open seam on the roof right at the corner of the vent, and water has damaged that whole roof area beneath the 'puddle'.
But, if the dealer wants to save the sale, open the roof right there - it's not difficult to remove that vent and see inside. At that point, a decision can be made about the repair. Makes sense for the dealer to attempt to remedy this for the buyer (OP) ... otherwise, if it's in conflict, the dealer can't sell it. And, he can't repair it without disclosing the repair. At least if he's an honest dealer.
I'd propose you let him open it and look at the inside of the roof. If it's damaged inside, he'll probably lose the case. Even if you don't buy it, in this case, the dealer will be better off returning your deposit and repairing it, as he has to do that regardless. Seems a no brainer to me - but then again, been wrong before (once :) ... good luck
