New member introduction w/ a question

Hi all,
My wife & i just bought our 1st travel trailer, a KZ Sportsman Classic 17RBS. We've owned 2 folding trailers prior to the KZ.
We moved to middle TN. 3 years ago from NY and want to take advantage of the beautiful campgrounds this state offers.
Now for my question, how many of y'all cover your camper? What brand cover do you have? Our camper sits at the end of our driveway in direct sunlight, no trees near it. I was wondering if I should cover it??
Thanks in advance!

  • Definitely cover it during the winter months. Ice and snow can't be good for a roof. And as you know from last winter in TN, we DO get that stuff.

Of course not ... what dealer in his / her right mind would invest $100,000 in covers plus pay tech time to have each one installed and later removed from lot models that are only going to be sold?! Good grief, this is hardly any argument at all to not cover a trailer for protection from the elements ... I only don't cover ours during the camping season because it's too much work for me, otherwise during winter storage any trailer I've owned and stored outdoors has worn an ADCO breathable cover. :B
  • Ok thanks guys... any particular brand cover y'all prefer? ADCO seems to be carried by a lot of RV supply outlets...any good?
  • IF buying a cloth cover. Just cover it during the months you won't be using it. Keeping the roof covered protects not only the roof, but the AC shroud, and ALL the vent covers fridge ect.. they get very brittle sitting in the sun all the time.
  • Welcome and congrats on your new KZ.

A good cover will keep your roof clean and adds a layer of protection from things falling on it. If it's going to be sitting awhile and you can manage the weight of a cover - cover it.

You might want to invest in a set of tire covers while you're at it, as well.
  • There are many complaints of fibreglass noses fading especially the colored ones. Mine is and i do cover it a lot of the time.
  • My opinion is, cover it when not in use for an extended period. It protects the from the sun and weather.
No, they're not covered by the dealer, they're on display to be sold.

Cars and pickups are not garaged while on the dealers lot. But, many people keep them in a garage after they buy them. JMO. :)
  • If you are using them, they aren't covered, and if they are sitting at a dealer, they aren't covered, so my answer to that would be - no, they don't need to be covered.

But, make sure you close blinds, windows, etc. so the UV doesn't fade out your fabrics inside.
