I have a 2005 2500HD truck and the trailer in my signature, can anyone recommend the best shocks to get for this set up?(Still have the originals) Thanks any info appreciated.

  • I have a 2013 GMC Sierra 3500 Diesel 4x4...all stock...I am very interested in improving our towing experience (5'r)...are these Blistein 4600's an upgrade on this truck with ~83,000 miles on it?

    bilsteins.

On our 04 I did this at less than 10K miles, huge improvement especially when towing. When we got the 2015, did it at less than 1K miles and again big improvement towing. Both cases improvements in unloaded ride as well
  • I just replaced the autoride shocks on my yukon. For the fronts I put in monroe reflex, rears monroe load adjusting coilover shocks. I now have the sevice ride control warning, I am going to install resistors on the now unused shock wires to defeat the warning. I have not towed the camper with them yet, but unloaded they feel great. I hooked up the camper to move it off the grass last weekend. I did not use the wieght distribution bars, and the rear of the truck only squated a little. Before these shocks, it would squat quite a bit without the bars.
Our previous tow vehicle had bilstiens, I was not as impressed with them as everyone else is.
  • Oh man still running the original shocks (sorry to hear that...) they have likey been bad for about the past ~10yr and are doing nothing for you. Factory GM shocks are garbage and don't last long.

Pickup a set of Bilstein 5100 (or 4600)shocks and you'll be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner.
  • X2 on the bilsteins. I have the bilstein 4600 on the front and rear which are for heavy loads like truck campers. My 2500 lb fifth wheel pin weight is a heavy load in my book. I think they are about the same price as bilstein 5100.
  • 2005 with original shocks....probably any will be better than those....:)
Replaced ours with Bilsteins...been very happy with them and they really made a difference both daily driving and towing.
