New stereo needed- options?

My new TT (new to me) is missing the stereo system (just the deck). The wires were cut, but fortunately they're all still tagged/labeled.

Any suggestions on what to install? I'd like to have DVD and maybe even Blu-Ray if it's not too pricey. I'd prefer to have a unit that was the same size as original, but am considering installing an automotive deck and running a regular DVD player to the TV, possibly with an auxiliary input to the deck for stereo sound...

I'd like to keep the cost down. I quickly perused Crutchfield and didn't really see anything that wasn't 300 or more, IIRC.
  • We wanted to replace the radio in our TT which had an in-dash type. Since we have had satisfaction with HD at home we went with an in-dash HD and have been quite happy. There are several choices and I don't think it matters very much which one you choose. The value with the HD is the additional choices with the various stations, very nearly like satellite without the charge. Of course if you are not in range of AM or FM you will not have choices other than the option of CD, memory stick or getting out a book, you know that thing like an unplugged gismo with printing.

It appears the unit in your TT was this one.

Keep searching. I was able to buy this unit for our old TT for around $190.00 back in 2012. Our old TT came with just a CD player and radio. I did end up purchasing on ebay from a rv surplus dealer. Hope this helps.

That explains why the player was missing....Jensen..you'd have to hold a gun on me to get me to buy any Jensen Audio product. There are numerous posts about the failure of Jensen Audio on this, and other forums. They are near the bottom of the quality barrel.

What I would be looking for in brands are Pioneer, Alpine, Sony, or JVC.
  • I am using a JVC head unit I picked up from Wal-Mart. it has an aux. in so I can use an Ipod or I can hook it up to the DVD/BlueRay player for surround sound. they sell a wiring connector that goes from RCA to the standard size headphone jack. it works great and sounds much better than the Concertone it replaced!

  • Lots of options and most of them will orient to how you use your RV because of power considerations. The simplest solution is to buy a new headunit with disc player and install. If you had one of those 1.5 DIN sized units, it can be replaced by a 1.0 DIN unit with an accessory fascia plate or bin. If your wires have been cut, you'll also need the pigtail that connects to your new headunit, if not included. These are the 12V choices.

If you always have 120V power available, you can buy a disc player and an amplifier and wire direct to the speaker wiring from your previous unit. When choosing an amplifier, get one that is compatible with 4 ohm speakers. The small digital "T-amps" are compatible with 4 ohm speakers and can also be run at 12v from battery or a walwart transformer.

My entertainment system is all 120V. I chose to do it that way because I have better components than 12V offers and my inverter is on while traveling or boondocking.
