New tire pressure

Just bought some new Lt 245/70/17 tires max tire pressure on tire says 80 lb my door sticker says 35 lb I have a 1500 silverado do I need to put 80 lb or 35 in the tires the tires are general grabbers I tow a 6500 lb camper any thoughts from ant body would help. Thanks

  • Is the tire size the same as that on the factory placard? If so, then the cold tire pressure is what's recommended. You can always check the factory recommendations from General Tire.
  • 80# is the MAX PSI for the MAX LOAD Rating

    I run 80# in rear tires when I am towing......need the tires at MAX PSI due to being at MAX LOAD

    I run 50# front (towing or not) no change in weight on front axle
    I run 45# rear when not towing

    These tire pressure are based on the weights on my axles.

    You will not need 80# in tires at anytime because you will not be at MAX LOAD
    (6400# on axle/tires).

    If tire size is same as OEM tires....then run what your sticker states
