thanks. i'm by no means an expert on solar or battery banks so any input is welcome. it has a 30 amp go power charge controller that uses pwm rather than mppt. i know it's not the best but unless there is something wrong with it that i'm not aware of i don't plan on upgrading. it says it has built in temperature compensation. i'll look for the catastrophic fuse.
we really only boondock and much of it in the mountains around CO during the winter so it's nice to have the battery capacity. we'll see how the softwall holds up to the cold. i think we're going to take it skiing next weekend so i'll report back. outfitter said they've had theirs out in -25 up in wyoming and were able to keep it 65 inside so we'll see. with the weather the way it has been lately next weekend probably won't be much of a test.
Adambeck7, you’ll do fine. There are a lot of us here that have a lot of TC time boondocking. Don’t hesitate asking any of us. Typically, we have a wide variety of experiences to share. When you go out in the “cold” try it in steps to test the frozen waters. Just remember things freeze and stop working. So don’t put yourself in a situation you can’t self-rescue. Propane tanks can stop functioning because of their frozen controller or use at a faster rate than expected. Often it is good to carry a spare. But if you have done some tests you will know what your TP Factor is. (Rate of use of your baseline use) For me with temps in the teens I can go through 2 thirty pounds Propane Bottles in 10 days. Remember your Oxygen Level in your camper, with everything closed up and vents closed. Also, you will lose 60 percent AmpH capacity in your Batteries when their internal temp falls below 50?F. Be sure to brush off the snow from your solar panels. Some just wait for it to melt off. But you are losing precious daylight, if you don’t.

I wondered when you two would show up. Beautiful night here in the Mojave. The stars are bright, cool night air and not a single light anywhere around me.
...hah. When I tent camped on the hard Mojave turf with my ear to the ground, I could never get a good night's sleep with all the mechanical clanking and metallic pinging going on ---apparently underground; no one in sight for tens of miles around. No oil rigs or drilling apparent. LOL!
Way up in a camper, you'll be insulated from all that noise :B
But what has me puzzled, what are all those aircraft flying around at night? All Blacked out and no lights on them, hovering and then zig zagging out into the darkness. I have been wearing the Aluminum covered Pith Helmet Whaz cobbled together for me. For all intents and purposes it seems to be doing the trick! No, signs of Govt. vehicles approaching. But WILL remain vigilant.

ALL THAT NOISE IS FROM THE "FIDGETS" THAT POPULATE THE NETHER REGIONS, COLLECTING THE DATA THAT THE GOVERNMENT IS GETTING FROM THE TIN FOIL WE MUST WEAR ON OUR HEADS!
Or.. from the red ants we are sleeping on when tenting!!
Thanks for the Private Message, Slickrocksteve! I really appreciated the Photo you sent that was taken while you were typing the message to me! I just want to assure you, that no one has contacted me about you. Well, at least, not yet. So maybe your paranoia is real?
