We have been seasonal for 7 years and when we wanted we pulled out and came back as we wanted to. As for the vermin we use a device that plugs into any receptacle and gives off a high frequency noise the critters do not like. Have never had a problem with squirrels, mice or anything but neighbors have. However you must have power all the time, we purchased these at a hardware store and in addition we use bounce sheets in drawers and closets during the winter when we are not around. I was sitting on the deck one day and saw a squirrel coming towards the unit and when he got within 10 feet he stopped, shook his head and turned around and ran the other way so I am sure they work.
