Wishin -- thanks for noticing the math error (that darn calculator messed up! :-)
So, in addition to the above calculations, I must also add the entire weight of the TV and the TT (and contents of both) and ensure *that* is under the TV's "Gross Combined Weight Rating". And, of course, I must do something similar for the trailer by itself (and its content) to ensure it is under the TT's weight limits. Wow, this is complicated!
If I am okay with GCWR, but am tight on the calculations I posted above (ie, the weight on the tongue is too much), are there things I can do with the manufacturer's hitch to balance the load differently?
Thanks again to everyone for their help. My anxiety level is at a peak, as I am looking at buying two expensive vehicles (TV and TT) -- it's hard to part with money before feeling totally comfortable that you are getting what will work for you!
P.S. I will go out today to check out Dodge Durango, GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Tahoe and Jeep Grand Cherokee. I thought I'd limited my search to the 4Runner and Pathfinder, with the 4Runner preferred, but after these exchanges, I think I have to be more flexible.
