Interior wise I'd go with F350, drove one yesterday and it was comfortable, I'm on the short side and the GM seats are a little long for me. Engine and tranny wise the Duramax/Allison, see my Sig. Love my GM. Like A Rock.
I drove the two back to back yesterday-granted, it was a GMC Denali-but the fit and finish seemed better on the GM truck. There seemed to be a good deal more road noise in the Ford, and the exhaust brake on the GM was impressive...has that been redesigned at all since the 2011 era?
What should I be concerned with from either model with buying used, possibly up to 100k miles?
On buying used check Carfax for history and if local check the dealer who serviced it. I purchased mine with 102000 miles and the owner had all service records.
My current 08 GMC does not have an exhaust brake and in the hills of Alabama and Tennessee I have not needed it even though I'm right at 24500 lbs. Might needed it out west but will be in a DP by then. I agree the fit/finish was better in the GM but the Ford was more comfortable to me. Both were 4x4, which I need and the Ford seemed a bit higher though. If your towing a fifth wheel I'd check your bed height so your not too nose high.
I've got to say my dream truck would be the body of the Ford, interior of the Ram and Duramax/Allison under the hood. Don't think I can have that though.
Thanks!
