I entertained finding a salvage 900 series 2500 to get the 6.0, 6L and 10.5 disc brake rear axle. Problems are finding the right one, then actually making them work with my platform. It's all tuning and code, and I'm sure someone has the knowledge out there. Some have put one in first gen Tahoe's, and had a nightmare getting electronics to play nice. However, the 6.0 would be an immediate upgrade in power and breathing; even stock it's on par with a stock 454 from my gen truck, and would get great mileage to boot.
Since I have plenty of time this may be something to kick around.
