Just got back from the trans shop; worn planetary bearing. $1800-$3600 depending on what else they find. Other options are to get a salvage unit for a couple of hundred (and rebuild mine as a backup), buy one from Monster, or figure out how to get a 6L to work with my motor. No matter, it will sit until funds allow.
As for the engine, I'm still a way from doing anything. If I keep the stocker I could have it rebuilt, converted to a 383, or just swap out heads and intake. There's the 454, 6.0, or a couple of diesel options, including a 12V first gen Cummins.
