I see 3 legitimate options to increase tire/wheel capacity of my stock truck. OEM wheels appear to be rated at 3615# based on a rear axle rating of 7230#, tires are 3640# per tire. My rear axle weighs 3180# unloaded. Based on others AF811 weights I am guessing 4200#+ wet which puts me above the OEM ratings.
According to fleet Ford their 18" and 20" OEM wheel have a 3590 lb load rating.
My take on wheel loads comes from over a million miles towing commercially with LDT's and heavy GN trailers... is do not exceed the load rating on any wheel. Its not worth the gamble operating over a wheel or tire load.
Running max axle loads is hard on tires and wheel such as a hauler does full time... or a heavy TC sitting on the truck 24/7. I had my share and I've seen the same with other operators with split tire bead flanges and broken center complaints in this type work.
Mounting a 3750-4000 lb rated tire on a 3590 lb rated wheel gets you is a bit of tire reserve capacity above the wheel load but no actual weight gain.
100% agreed. This is why I am planning on purchasing Method NV HD wheels rated to 4500#. My decision is basically do I spend ~$2500 for 18” wheels mated to 4080# rated tires or spend $4k for 19.5 wheels mated to Michelin XDS2.
I am planning on driving the truck with the camper dry to get a sense of if I feel 19.5’s are warranted.
