Ok- so in the TT brochure- if it says hitch weight 540, what does that mean?
That means the tongue weight was 540 lbs, when the trailer came off the assembly line. There are some options and accessories that get added by both, manufacturer and the dealer, that make the tongue weight higher. Dealers add propane and a battery (sometimes two), and possibly a few options.
When that trailer leaves the dealer lot, the tongue weight could easily be 100 lbs heavier.
Average load for dishes, pots and pans, bedding, camp chairs, BBQ, water, groceries, etc, is about 1000 lbs. Ten to fifteen percent of that weight, will add to the tongue weight.
Dry tongue weight of 540, could be over 700 lbs, when loaded for camping.
