Just know that the closer you get to your "tow rating", the more your truck is gonna have to work... Max it out on "tow rating" and you'll be heavy into the pedal and rpms and that's just the way it is.. Does not matter if it's a mini van, 1500, 2500, 3500 or even a 80K semi...
That's not even considering the other weight ratings on the payload, axles, combined weight, etc...
The "tow rating" is not meant to be a tongue weight heavy, brick travel trailer hitched to your truck and have it feel like you are taking the kids to a soccer game on the weekend.. ha, ha... :)
Heck, my F150 has a #11K "tow rating" and I only tow a #7000 loaded TT and it's all I want to tow with it..
The reason why? Because I don't want to be maxed out and kill my rig and I enjoy the trip as much as I enjoy the destination..
Anyway, I've been towing and "camping" for some 50 years now.. (I'm only 56 years old, but I grew up camping/rving with my family since I was a baby, so have been thru and experienced all this stuff before there was any "tow ratings" on things.. Ha, ha..
No expert by any means.. I learn more and more each and every year I hit the road..
You just gotta blaze your own trail and start with something and end up with what works best for you... "tow ratings" don't really mean much if you aren't comfortable towing the rig..
Good luck!
