Fellow senior here, and stay away from the later Weekend Warriors as you are correct that they went BK and had a bad rep in the later years. WW invented the "toy hauler" IMO and had a good rep at one time, but not near the end. If you have a good tow vehicle, I would recommend something around 25ft to pull; lots of good rigs out there in this size. If you go with "something to drive", it's going to cost you much more up front and more in maintenance.
Another fellow senior here, I agree with Ron. You said money was an issue and a Travel Trailer would be best if you are comfortable towing.
Check out
RV consumer group if you haven't already. I would recommend you buy conservatve if this is your first RV as you might want a different one after you start using it and talk and see other units and Folks at the campgrounds. So watch you price carefully so if you find something else you can get your money back out of your current unit and move on.
