We have slide. I can't imagine being without one. Ours is a Schwintek slide and mechanically it has performed well since 2010. I personally would not want a slide with a refrigerator in it. Such a refrigerator needs a flexible gas line which makes me a little nervous. It also needs to vent waste heat out the slide's wall instead of the roof. This is less efficient. Some models use a fan to increase ventilation. This is not an issue with shore power, but if you boondock, it will put a significant extra load on your battery.
And I'll take the flip side of that. My trailer has the fridge in the slideout, and that fact opens up several more sq ft of floorspace. It's one of the reasons I chose this trailer.
For me personally I have never been in a non-slide out trailer that felt "open" enough. So to that end, I will not own a trailer unless it has a slide.
Using this trailer 5 to 7 months a year since late 2011, I've not had a problem with the fridge being in the slide. Yes it has a fan in it to help move air. I replaced the factory fan with a larger one ( they are basically a computer fan ). The fridge has always cooled fine, from sea level to over 12,000 ft in Colorado, in temps from the teens to well over 100 degrees.
Works for me.
