Absolute rubbish. I'm not nor have ever been "scared" of slides, rather I'm clearly aware that as an additional electrical / mechanical device slides can and do fail for one reason or another with varying degrees of severity a lot more frequently than pundits such as yourself would have others, especially newbies, believe. Our current trailer is the first we've ever owned with a slide and although I've had no issues with it so far every time I extend or retract that slide I'm aware "this" may be the one time it doesn't do what it's supposed to. Don't kid yourself, the risk is always there with any slide and for some it's not a matter of "if" the slide will fail but "when". :( As for whether you find my position "credible" or not that's certainly the last thing I would ever be concerned about. :R
