Newbie travel trailer buyer question - to slide out or not

I was thinking aboht my dad's 5er. It had a slide that the queen bed was on. When retracted, the bed was still reachable. I couldn't imagine buying that if I couldn't plop on the bed for a quick nap while retracted.

I haven't had any need for a slide, but I'm not against them. However, not being able to sit on the couch or bed, etc., while it was retracted would be a huge reason to not buy it for me.
