Towing capacity is a mfg. marketing tool that is based on standard model with 150# driver and 20# cargo.
You will reach/exceed payload capacity LONG before reaching that magical tow rating.
Payload is amount of weight truck can safely carry.....that includes weight of all passengers, any stuff in truck cab, any stuff in bed of truck, weight of two hitch and the tongue weight of trailer (typically 15% of trailers camp ready weight)
7600# tow rating
15%----1140# tongue weight
2016 1500 with eco-diesel only have 1600# payload
That only leaves 460# for everything else.
Look at door sticker on truck and see what your truck payload (cargo capacity) is.
6000# GVWR trailer is about what you will probably need
