Newer Chevy 2500HD rear diff ratios and engine differences?

I'll clarify that I will be buying a used truck, probably 2013 or newer but thanks for the offer, Dadoffourgirls. Why a 3500 over 2500...just the payload difference? I'm assuming the drive train is the same between a 2500 and 3500, correct?
