Would people drive 60 mpg diesels here 20-30 years ago, like Europeans did, SOMEBODY would have much smaller checking account.

Fiat is actually failing, sales are awful.. Not exactly taking over.
Most diesels are ok now even with emissions, but they still aren't perfect.
