Unfortunately that is a fact many times.
Another thing to consider is when you take a vehicle in with a major problem, many times they will give it to their best mechanic. But if you bring it in with something easy/simple, they will give it to the guy who can screw up a 3 car funeral.
My 2016 Camry came with free oil/filer changes for two years. I buy the Mobil 1 and Toyota filter and change them myself.
