Tesla stock down 21% today, down 34% this month. Competition is on the way, VW's first MEB platform cars are coming out in the new year and look like they could provide some real competition for the 3 and Y.
The looks of the ID3 is kinda cool. I’m not sure why they decided not to sell it on this side of the pond.- wilber1ExplorerTesla stock down 21% today, down 34% this month. Fuel cell vehicles are electric, They convert hydrogen directly into electricity, the only byproduct is water.. - fj12ryderExplorer III

According to the article: "Additionally, Nikola will hand over $2 billion in stock to GM — giving the automaker an 11% stake in the company." So $2 billion in stock, depending of course on what 11% of the company is worth at any one time.fj12ryder wrote:

But it's all stock and no real money. If the stock tanks, then everybody loses, since all GM gets is stock. It's not like GM hasn't made bad decisions before. :)
There might be something to it though. That is a truck full of money that they have thrown at it.
Im not up on how that stock stuff works but that kinda makes sense. What you are saying is they never actually paid them 2 billion. fj12ryder wrote:

Do you think GM was duped? - fj12ryderExplorer III

Nah, that would be unethical. :) - There might be something to it though. That is a truck full of money that they have thrown at it.

Yeah, I read that Nikola's stock took a big jump right after the announcement. So it could all just be a ploy for stock manipulation.
Yeah, up 48% in one day...... It is very beneficial for someone to create hype like this all over the media and forums like these.
Almost makes you wonder if people are doing it on purpose sometimes.
..........
The market is driven by speculators. Those seeking to make a profit, quick or long term, are fast to buy on any promising news and that drives the price up. And they are just as quick to bail on any hint of bad news and that drives the price down. And automated computer buy/sell programs compound the problem.
Well of course, but there is a huge difference between purposely creating hype that doesn't come to fruition with the given time frame versus actually increasing demand by actually creating a good product. In many cases, these kind of media hype events are because the company needs more capital. That is what FJ12ryder and I are saying. We are not saying anything bad about electric vehicles here so no need to get defensive. We are just saying it is click-bait or stock "buy-bait" due to the broad and general hype created by the marketing departments of these companies.
Most companies wait until they have a finalized/tested product and specific production dates before making media events like this, not untested concepts and vague production targets.
