Shiner, a typical fire truck (engine) weighs around 30000 pounds, an aerial ladder around 50000 pounds or more. That's a 'load' no? In 32 years the only engine failures I ever knew of in our department were V8 3206 Caterpillar engines in Ford C 900 chassis, and a V8 Cummins 903 in an aerial platform (twice). The second failure on the 903 shot a rod through the block. Inline 6 Cummins on custom apparatus used now, no problems. Trucks may have few road miles but many engine hours.
I was saying that a firetruck does not carry a load. I was just explaining what happen when the engine has excessive wear and that they generally do not have a many mile or operating hour as a typical truck. Although the typical firetruck(or at least the one my company services) do not have as many day in and day out cold starts as a pick up or semi which is when most wear occurs.
