No it is for the "lazy" folk who can't be bothered with a fuel cap..
You can read Ford's paper they published back in 2007 on their capless door..
HEREWhile on the surface it "sounds" like a great idea, in practice it often fails to seal correctly and when that happens you get LOTS of evap system warnings..
HERE is one of MANY complaints on this system.. And the fix is to spend an outrageous amount of money on a new filler neck when it malfunctions..
Some have even resorted to REPLACING the ENTIRE filler neck with a STANDARD filler neck that uses a normal gas cap!
