Not really, no battery to store recovered energy. Wouldn’t be surprised to see batteries added in future to make them hybrids.
The nation's largest builder of train locomotives seems to be working on it and we might see results withing a year.

And the next application will be some well intentioned, but misguided soul demanding that they install solar panels on all the subway cars.
And then complaining that they dont work, so we need to install electric lights in the tunnels to feed the solar cells.
