We just unplugged the shore power to our 2011 Keystone Springdale and I checked to see if there was power to the wall plugs and not one of them has power. The lights, range fan/light,radio/CD, power jacks, etc work fine. Just no power for things like a coffee maker. Checked the fuses and all appear OK. All receptacles worked on shore power. I've read the owner's manual which says "Almost all equipment except the microwave and roof air conditioner operate using 12V." Suggestions, please!

"Almost" says it. Basically, all you have without shore power is 12V (the hard-wired stuff and the round plugs if any). The wall receptacles (two blades and a hole) run off 110 (shore power or generator power).You are reminding me of one of my daughters when I bought my first RV. She wanted to know why her curling iron didn't work.

You need to be plugged into shore power to have your 110-120v wall plugs to work unless you have an inverter and large battery bank. Sounds normal to me.

The wall outlets are also run on shore power not 12 volt. Maybe one or two round ones will be 12 volt.

You have two type of power being used in the trailers... 120VAC and 12VDC...Check this simplified diagram on how this is managed in a typical 30AMP trailer.If you are needing to have 120VAC available when camping off the power grid then you have to install an optional INVERTER unit that will give you 120VAC from the installed 12VDC battery system. These INVERTERS are very power hungary requiring more battery capacity depending on how big of an inverter you want to use.Hope this info helps...Roy Ken

That's the way it's designed to work. You will not have power to your wall plugs unless you are plugged into shore power or a genny. Most of the appliances work (Frig, radio, TV, fans, lights, water pump, water heater) because they are designed to run on 12v battery power. Wall outlets, AC and micro are not and will not operate on 12v power (unless you increase the size of your battery bank and get and invertor).

Two options for coffee off the grid.
1) Percolator on the stove
2) Pour boiling water through the Mr. Coffee maker (it wont stay hot because the burner is off).

3rd option - Stove top drip coffee maker - we have one and it works great - though my preference is the percolator.

Perhaps Doug will chime in and state just what he meant.
I thought he meant alternating current, as that was what the OPs question and the purpose of this thread is about.
The OP poster plainly stated that his owners manual said that the microwave and air conditoner would not work off of battery power.

If I was wrong in my interpretation, of what Doug was referring to, then Doug should be the one to correct me.

Unless that happens , then I will continue to believe that Doug was on point with his comment being relavent to the OPs question.

Not if your wife as Keurig!! On our last vacation (in May) I started up the generator more than once just so she could get her special cup of coffee. :)

Please people, forget your own accomplishments and answer the OP's question without confusing the heck out of him and everyone else new to the RV electrical usage. Why must this always happen? Someone posts a simply answered question and the next thing you know folks jump in with all sorts of comments that do not relate to the answer that the OP was looking for, which arrived in the first few answer posts and should have ended there. Doug was clearly talking about his air conditioner. Those are not my definitions, but industry standard. It's very easy for newbies to be confused by simple mis-statements. That's why I believe it's important to make the distinction. Only nit picking to try to save others from grief.

A/C = Air Conditioner

AC = Alternating Current

You can see why it's easily confused.

I think Doug was talking about alternating current, not the Air Conditioner...But no matter, I plainly stated that high draw items couldn't be run with 600 watts..

And the only reason I did is so that people wouldn't slam me for not making it clear, when it is obvious to anyone that really thinks about it.
