Exact same thing happened to us but on our Jeep tires. We felt a wobble first, so we slowed down and stopped. Checked. Nothing. Got back in and headed down the road slowly. 45mph. Started to wobble so we slowed down to 40. Wobbling stopped. Started to wobble so we slowed to 30. Wobbling stopped. Then BANG!! Scared the you know what out of us. Got out and that's exactly what we found - tread gone, laying down the road a ways. I went back to pick it up while DH got out the Hi Lift jack and put on the spare. They were covered under the tire warranty so replacing them all wasn't that big of a hit. Strange thing is that months earlier we felt a wobbliness to the ride and had everything checked out but the tires. With the new tires, the ride was wobble free! It was the tires all along.
It could've been worse all the way around for you - the tire could've blown on separation and tore up the side of your trailer and for us, we could've been going faster when the separation happened flipping us and killing us all. Thank God for miracles.
