  • is every trailer equipped with a bypass?
i have looked under the sink all the is the the pump ,under the couch where the hot water tank is located and the is only the water lines ,and out side and all i can find it the blow off valve and to drain it .
i am also going to look besides the CO2 sensor under the fridge .
after that i am kind of stumped and will have to bring it in for the issue .

thank -you for all the quick responses

If there is water in the hot water tank I don't think it is the by-pass valve.

Unless one of the bypass valves was left shut There are two (sometimes 3) One in , one out & if there is a 3rd it crosses between the in & out side. The by passes are usually behind the water heater in a cabinet or behind a panel.........

  • Under the counter to the left of the sink; remove the four screws holding the panel that has the gas alarm in it, and gentle pry the whole panel out out.
The Alarm has extra wires, so you can move the panel.
You will be looking at the two by pass valves.

After my first few winterizations, I got fed up with removing the screws so I hinged my panel with tiny hinges and put a latch on it.

  • It could also be you check valve at the outlet of the tank is stuck shut. This prevents water flow from coming in to the HWT via the outlet line when the tank is isolated but it allows water out of the HWT through the outlet line.

It's brass and only just around 3/4 of an inch long. Try rapping it with something to see if it will release before you drain down the system and change it if you have to.

Some HWT's have isolation valves on the inlet, outlet, and bypass, and others just have inlet, bypass, and use a check valve on the outlet.

  • My guess would be that you just haven't found the by-pass valves yet. You may have to remove one of the drawers in the cabinets to access them.
It may only have the discharge valve on the water heater, so you would be filling it up, but not getting anything through it.

Also, keep in mind that when you finally get things working, you don't want to "vent" the water heater. If there is air in the top of the tank, it will act as a cushion for your pump and system....so don't blow out the relief valve.

You may have to trace out the water lines....pulling cabinet drawers out, etc. It's probably a good idea anyway....you'll learn a lot, and find stuff you didn't know you had!

    Good Luck:)
