No water coming out of the faucets

I was able to figure out what was wrong with the water pump. I just got my RV and had the dealer de-winterize it but they never switched the valve from winterize to normal (thanks DutchmenSport). Everything is now working

I'm new to RV so I know I'll have more questions in the future

Before you go and replace that pump do a simple test:

Remove the pump (this is easy)

Put it on a bench or your pickup tailgate. Get a 12v source. (I just connected my jumper cables to my Trlr battery and to the pump wires.

Connect a length of hose to the INTAKE side and drop in a pan or bucket of water, apply the 12v and see if the pump is actually pumping. a good stream of water should shoot out the output side. NOT a dribble or a slow run.

This will tell you if the pump is working or if you have a different problem.

You should as part of the above test screw on a plastic valve to the output and try opening and shutting it to see that the pump cycles
correctly. (This imitates the faucet opening.)

So if it works there is no need to disassemble the pump. If not then take the pump head off...this is also simple and look for dirt depris etc and remove and retest.

If your pump in fact does NOT pump water on the test or after you have dismantled it....YOU STILL DO NOT NEED A NEW PUMP. And despite what someone else said here they are not CHEAP.

The vast majority of these pumps have re-build kits available for less than half of the pump cost and those kits are easy to install...about a 10 minute job if the pump is already out.

Ask about the rebuild kits first.

If your pump does work OK in the test then you have one of two problems depending on what your pump is doing:

Tell us if the pump is always running (never pressurizes the system) or if it Cycles but doesn't flow.

I thought my pump was broke too.

Take the faucet screens off and clean them.

Yup I had no water and believe it or not bits of sand filled each and every one of the tiny holes in the screens.........................
took an RV Mobile Repair guy to come out and show me that one. :R:R

Couple of other possibilities.

There is likely a shutoff valve between the water tank and the pump - make sure that's turned to the correct position. Also - there is likely a small water filter on the inlet side of the water pump and if that gets plugged up water won't get to the pump.

Look for a shut off valve downstream from the pump.
Possibly in the next compartment or behind a panel.

Could be a lot of reasons why. Here is what I would do.

1. Look at your pump.
2. See what brand and model you have.
3. Get on-line.
4. Google it.
4. At end of instructions will usually have trouble shooting guide.

TROUBLESHOOTING Vibration induced by driving can loosen plumbing, strainers and pump hard- ware. Check for system components that are loose. Also, refer to the chart below for trouble-shooting tips.

PUMP WILL NOT START/ BLOWS CIRCUIT ? Electrical connections, fuse or breaker, main switch, and ground connection. ? Is the motor hot? Thermal breaker may have triggered; it will reset when cool. ? Is voltage present at the switch? Bypass pressure sw. Does the pump operate? ? Charging System for correct voltage (±10%) and good ground. ? For an open or grounded circuit, or motor; or improperly sized wire. ? For seized or locked diaphragm as- sembly (water frozen?).

WILL NOT PRIME/SPUTTERS (No discharge/Motor runs) ? Is the strainer clogged with debris? ? Is there water in the tank, or has air collected in the hot water heater? ? Is the inlet tubing/plumbing suck- ing in air at plumbing connections (vacuum leak)? ? Is inlet/outlet plumbing severely restricted or kinked? Restrictive valves? ? Proper voltage with the pump oper- ating (±10%). ? For debris in pump inlet/outlet valves or swollen/dry valves. ? Pump housing for cracks or loose drive assembly screws

Two thoughts come to mind.

First, if you have a winterizing hose, make sure the valve for winterizing is in the right position for drawing from the tank and not the winterizing hose.

Second, how long are you letting the pump run? If your water heater is empty, the pump will attempt to fill the water heater until the system pressurizes. Then you need to open a hot faucet so the remaining air can push out. The pump may run 5 minutes to fill the hot water tank.

Third, you do have water in the fresh water tank? right?

When first turning on the pump, make sure your tank has water in it. Make sure all your faucets are turned off. Then turn the pump on. If your water heater is on bypass (and empty) the pump should run only a few seconds and pressurize the system and then turn off. The flip your water heater off bypass and fill it. Once pressurized again, the pump will quit running. Open a hot water faucet and bleed the air until hot water spits air no more. Then turn the faucet off. System will pressurize right away again and the pump should shut off.

I have found that if a faucet is turned on when the line are empty (after winterizing and blowing the lines), it won't pump water if the faucets are open. They have to be closed and the system pressurizes. This causes a prime from the pump to the fresh water tank/

Pump on and all faucets closed the pump should run for a short time and stop. If it is just running bad pump, tank empty, or pump may be trying to draw from winterizing adapter. :h

There are two internal diaphragms in a pump and when they start to leak the pump loses it's ability to push water. Still runs, nothing happens. Pumps are not expensive and the install is simple but they put the pump in hard to reach places. Otherwise it is a simple fix. You will not see leaking water, it's still contained inside the pump, just isn't moving.
