Noisy reciever

The hitch that I put in my receiver is noisy. It fits in, but it is loose and when a lighter trailer is hooked up, I hear rattling on the bumps.

Is this normal? Is there anything can do about it?
  • GM had problems with there factory hitches cracking along the corners. I would inspect the hitch for that if GM product.
I put a Roadmaster 061 Quiet Hitch on MH. It is similar to previous post.
    Quiet Hitch
  • My truck is a Ford, not a GM.

Is this noise going to cause problems, or is it just noise?
  • It can cause excess strain on the corners of the receiver and pin. Keep an eye on your pin to see if it shows signs of wear.
You might want to put your vehicles information in your profile.
  • I have tried almost every Anti Rattle device on the market, including all those mentioned here. Most have been no good or so complicated and cumbersome that they are useless. Including the Roadmaster type, totally useless.
Until I found the one at Hitch Rider.

Their Hitch Vice is the best and easiest one I have come across and it really works.

Everybody seems to be focused on the hitch...maybe it just too small of a ball. Most TT require the 2 5/16" ball and maybe, just maybe the OP is using a 2" ball and a 2 5/16" cup.

    Food for thought.

    It is not the ball.

It is the 2 square things that go together. There is play with those and it is making noise.
