Non-secured items getting loose during travel

In my years of RV'ing, I've had a few things go flying around the RV during transit. With my maiden voyage in our Bullet, two items got loose. One was the flat plastic cover over the kitchen sink. It ended up on the floor, where I don't believe it caused any damage. The second was the upper cushion of the couch. It too fell harmlessly on the floor. So for the ride home, the kitchen sink cover was placed in the cabinet and the couch cushions were placed on the bed. We were fortunate nothing major got loose.

With our previous TT, one of the drawers came loose, and then with all the bumping it bent the track, eventually snapping one completely off. I managed to straighten out the track and reattach it to the wall, and get the drawer back to the retracted position. I then taped the rails so that the drawer could never come loose again. We never used that particular drawer anyway.

One time I was getting the TT ready for a trip, and decided to drive around the block to test and adjust the brake controller. But I forgot that I still had a little TV up on the shelf in the bedroom area. When I got back to the house after the test run, the TV had fallen off the shelf on to the bed, and then fell on to the floor, putting a nice hole in the wall a couple feet off the ground. By some miracle the TV did not break, and actually still worked. I was never able to fix that hole in the wall, and when I traded it in last week, the salesman asked if I got mad once and punched the wall. LOL

What items in your TT have gotten loose when you were in transit?

This leads me to another question: Did your TT come with a toilet paper or paper towel holder? With our previous TT I had to install both myself, and now I find myself having to do it again with the new TT. The advantage is you can install them where you want. I can't decide whether to use screws or just stick them on the wall/cabinet with command strips. DW doesn't even want me to install a paper towel holder as she think it looks junky.
  • My sink covers stay on and cushions stay put. My biggest problem is stuff shifting inside the pantry. No matter how carefully I put stuff in there, it comes tumbling out. I have learned through the school of bruised feet, to put one hand up and stand back while opening the pantry after being mobile. I have plastic sorters and bins everywhere I can in the other cabinets. But our pantry only has narrow shelves and it's not feasible. We have friends that have a nice pantry with shelves that come out on rollers. I would love that. But then no matter what we have, I suppose there's always something else we wish we had. No matter, I am quite happy to have the MH we have, and I've learned to beware if I don't want bruised toes.
  • We had a Bullet until we traded it in a month ago. Only thing that ever wandered during transit was a pepper shaker that was in the spice cabinet over the kitchen window. We had an interesting time (achhoooo) cleaning up all that pepper!

  • I have a Bullet, too. The cabinet door that covers the drawers always comes open. And my paper towels and toilet paper always completely unroll during transit. The sink cover stays on, though.
  • In our previous TT the cabinet over the couch opened during travel and out came the dishes. We cleaned up the dishes and secured the two cabinet door handles with a bungee cord.
  • Sounds like your trailer must ride fairly rough. I was going to suggest something that obviously won't work in yours. I travel with the cutting board/sink cover on the sofa but since your sofa also must have found it rough, may not help in your case. Anyplace in the REAR of your trailer will experience more bumps and dips and items placed near the tongue will have the smoothest ride.
