So, I am coming up with 1245lbs for my payload. My occupants are 400lbs. 100 lbs for tow hitch etc? 1245-500 = 945 payload. If I use the 12% method as prescribed by godlucks10 ... the max TT Fully loaded/wet/all my items cannot exceed around 7700lbs??
Why in the hell do they advertise "Will tow 10,500 lbs"
Is that new math? I get 745.
Half ton tow ratings rarely mean RV tow ratings. Just you pulling a boat? Sure, 10k. You +_ family, a bed full of camping gear, grill, firewood, bikes,, and a high profile TT with 15% TW? You could use up all your payload before supporting any trailer tongue weight.
Not all 10-15% of TW goes onto the truck's suspension when using a WDH, nor all the hitch weight which is usually less than 100 pounds. But no pickup pulls into a campground with an empty truck bed either. Stick to under 6k dry, under 700 pounds dry TW. Get a WDH with integrated sway control. Load as much into the TT as possible and limit cargo in the truck bed. You should be pleased with how your truck tows. Lots of power comfortable ride.
