What about extending the tongue of the trailer
It was right in front of me the whole time! I'm having a DUH moment right now.
It would be much easier, and sturdier to extend the trailer to give me at least a 60* turning radius without ever touching the stock hitch. Plus the added leverage will reduce tongue weight at the ball. Only concern I can think of is making sure the tongue doesn't contact the TC as I pull into a driveway, etc. but a hitch with a mild drop should get me around that.
Stock hitch should handle 4600 lb and < 665 lb tongue weight without breaking a sweat.
Anybody done this, and are there any downsides I'm not seeing right now?
