Bedlams idea #2 could certainly work. That's more or less what I have on my truck...more or less a "frame extension" that is bolted into the frame. It extends out about 2.5' from the existing frame end, and means I only have to put in a drawbar from that. I'm not sure I'd recommend that over spending the dough to buy a pre-made setup, but if you'd rather weld and bold your own together to save some bucks it might make sense. I have some picture on here somewhere of it.....I'll look.
