..It's not just the 1/2 ton...it's also the 3/4 ton, 1 ton SRW and 1 ton dually....they've ALL improved beyond the imagination from trucks back in the late 60's, 70's, 80's, and even the 90's....(though in the 70's..."I" was the Daddy:)).
I had a 72 C10 chevy with the 350 and it was a bit of horse I though, ran like a scalded dog, but it was a stick( called 1st. gear a "bulldog" gear)... I don't recollect much about HP & TQ, back then, (1978), but towed with it, loaded it up with fire wood and forded many a trout stream with it...did all I ever needed it to do...had a 73 Jeep J20 pickup some years afterward that could climb a tree:)....also a heck of a truck for what I used it for..(fire wood & towing). had a 360 in it.
