Occasional bogging

I've got a 07' Ram 3500 6.7L diesel dually with the exhaust brake that occasionally boggs a bit when pressing the fuel pedal, when it happened today I pulled over and did a re-start and all was well. Any thoughts??

Thanks in advance!
  • Having the bully dog and all your emissions stuff might be part of the problem. You could have fixed all your turbo/emissions problems for about 3k at a diesel performance shop.
  • I see it's Bully chipped. Is it also K&N or other oiled gauze filtered? If so I'd agree on the MAP and MAF as first suspects. If you clean them, use MAF cleaner only. Brake cleaner or carb cleaner can damage the sensors.
  • If it's an auto it's the 68.
Need to explain bogging. Downshift and no power, won't downshift and is lugging?

Given your limited description I'd gues the latter and have you tried manually downshifting if the trans gets stuck in too high a gear?
  • I'll find out what tranny it is. Yes it was coded last year on the way down to Florida when this first happened, I brought it to the Chrysler dealer in Lenoir Tenn. and Goober was happy to report that both the turbo and the catalytic converter were both toast but the good news was that they could repair it in about three days at $8.000,,,, sure! After leaving them the truck ran great then I saw the engine light go back on and the overhead display said the particulate filter was full and to run at 65mph for 20 minutes to clean it out and the truck ran fine until yesterday when it had just a little bogg which went away after I shut it down. I replace the fuel filter every third oil change.
  • The 68rfe is well known to shift too early and not downshift when you add throttle. In your signature it says 6 speed. That doesn't really tell us which tranny you have. If it is engine related and not tranny, then I'd ask about fuel filter changes, how many miles? Vgt turbo vanes could be stuck or acting up. That is fairly common.
  • By chance have you scanned it to see if there are any stored DTCs(diagnostic trouble codes) in it? Could be anything from a throttle position sensor to a MAP or MAF sensor. My '13 F350 6.7L had a stumble/buck upon acceleration and it turned out to be a bad MAF(mass air flow sensor). Took several months and many trips to the dealer to figure it out as it never set a code. Good luck and let us know. Sincerely hope it isn't much.
