Just for reference, last year we put a Spartan/ATK reman long block from CarQuest in my son's '89 K1500 project truck. $1,350 for the long block or $1,500 with the pan, timing cover, and valve covers. It's not a HiPo engine but has ran just fine so far. There are a few bad reviews on these but I talked to a builder who said the engines are good and nearly all the complaints are due to shade tree install errors. Of all the shop installed engines 99.9% have zero issues but maybe 10% of the personal installs have problems directly related to the owner messing up.

Depending on the condition of your current truck, and how motivated you are to do an engine swap, you could get it back on the road in a weekend and for around $2K. It looks like the 5.7L Vortec 4-bolt main for your truck runs right at $2K with all the tin already installed.

It's a 2000vortec 350. Not sure if I want to replace motor, junk it. It's been used overall reasonably hard. It has mikes left I'm sure

Ouch. Sorry for your ride and the financial pain to follow.

But to inject a little levity, you reminded me of a sports car race I attended back in the day. The driver who lead the entire race dropped out on the back straight of the last lap and didn't finish. When towed in and asked what happened, he replied "I had electrical failure: a connecting rod sheared the battery cable."

For my step dad, a being engineer that designed bearings etc for lunar car, hydrofoil, multitudes of military craft. His favorite fixers are epoxy and double back tape of all things...
He's still with us at 95, not sure how much longer....

Have 6+ holes in oil pan in front. Thinking something let go in 1,2 or possibly 3,4 cylinder area. Yes it GM with 350.

I'm thinking a newer 1500 with the 4.3, as I'm mostly comuting, so don't need 2 ton payload capacity. The V6 with 285/305 6sp auto should pull my 6000 lb equipment trailer as well or better than this rig. Big issue will be 4000 ra capacity vs 6000. Even at that....
