Oil change SHOCK

I have no idea if that price is close to what a regular dealer would charge since I would never, and have never, had any service done at a shop.

But my experience from other sources who do, is that the shop price for parts is at least double what it would cost to buy them your self. So if you paid $150 for parts, the shop will charge $300, then add an hour of shop time and it looks like $400 would be about right.

That is an insane amount of $ for an oil change.

I gave up on Big O a few years back myself. I had tread separation on my 5er when I was on a trip, so I bought 4 new tires from Big O, along with their road hazard warranty.

A year later, one of those tires needed replaced due to a nail in the sidewall. Went to the Big O near my house and they wouldn't honor the road hazard warranty - said I had to go back to the store where I bought the tires from as Big O is a franchise, and the two stores were unrelated.

No more Big O purchases for me.

What am i missing here? Oil change at GM dealer 57 to 90 bucks (depending if you are in Michigan or florida). fuel filter 90 and air filter 30. 210 out the door.

My average price for an oil change, 2 filters,1 bypass filter and 44 quarts of oil plus fuel filter is $300 but I'm not driving apup

Am I correct the amount being paid was not just for an "Oil Change" but also Fuel and Air Filters? I wonder if there wasn't any other seemingly low cost maintenance item they had done that when added all up, can raise a bill.

My local Big O has treated me pretty well over the years. Last time for a service on my 2009 Dodge Cummins went like this, from the invoice:
12 qts Delo 400 oil. $72
Napa oil filter $9
Napa fuel filter $59.99
Service coupon -$10
Labor, Shop supplies and tax brought the total to $197.61.

Add in the air filter and still less than $250.

Historically the local dealer has been more expensive.

Any shop should be willing to give you an estimate for the work to be done.

Sounds pricey!

I pay $99.70 for oil change & lube only. Used to be around 60 something a few years ago.
$289.13 for oil change, lube, and fuel filter.

This is on my diesel pickup, at the local GM dealer.

$77.45 for an air filter.

Well Just looked at O'Rielly's and the two fuel filters were right at$200! I can get them from Geno's Garage for $100 Oil filter $14. I have not priced at Cummins NW yet.

On my '15 F350, it gelled up on me and I had no clue what happened at 1st. Dealer couldn't get me in, but their sister dealer should and right around the corner from where I was at. Truck limited to 25 mph. Got truck to them/inside and they come back telling me it gelled up and would be like 350-400 bucks. Asked if filters were made of gold ($150) and no way was I paying that kind of dough. Told them I'll pay them for their time and be on my way. Surprisingly, it thawed out while inside and zipped home w/o a hitch. Called NAPA up and got a filter for 90 bucks. Discovered later I can get Motorcraft filters online for 55 bucks. Granted this is fuel filters I'm talking about.

As for dealer,I asked about oil changes and believe I was quoted 2-300 bucks. Like some others, can do it myself for under 150 and a lil time. Have a couple buckets/pails I put used oil in and local place takes it for their waste oil furnace.

I buy my oil (Rotella) from Amazon and filters (Baldwin) too and change it all myself. Buy everything in bulk to keep price down.
