I can`t tell you how many cars I`ve changed oil on where the customer uses the manuf. guideline or the cars oil life monitor to tell them when to change the oil. the oil comes out as black as a diesels engine oil. you look down inside the valve cover and all you see is gunk and the formation of sludge. I change my Mobil 1 in my Excursion around 4500 miles and my minivan with regular oil at 3000-3500 miles. the inside of all my engines are clean! even my old 190k mile minivan was clean inside!
I change the oil by what I know and see! 7500 miles on a gas engine oil change is just asking for trouble.........usually after the warranty runs out!
Know what you mean...the 'ex' would be one of those, but I always drove
it on the weekends to heat it up
Grocery shopping, take the kids to and back from school, lunch with
her GF's, etc and never really got it hot to vaporize moisture from
over nite cool downs. Used to change her sedan's oil once a year just
because I could NOT stand to leave it in there over a year...it was
still honey colored and clear after a year's time
My vehicles all get hot enough to vaporize that moisture
The only one that I'll skip an oil change on is the lawn mower, which
also gets Mobil 1 synthetic along with a teaspoon of my special
Moly additive. Skip as in next year, as I change it in the fall when
it's only used every other week or so. Ditto the portable 5PH air compressor,
Rototiller, and big 2 stage air compressor. All has Mobil 1 synthetic
and Moly additive in their crank cases
