Here's my strange brand of weirdness. With all my hobbies (and even at work), I tend to be obsessed by aspects of it that everyone dislikes, and focus intently on making it a non-issue, and even take joy in it. With RVs, it's the black tank and RV toilets in general.
I'm still a newbie with only 5-6 camping trips, but one of them was 5 weeks long and across country. Probably camping at 20 locations in total. Prior to purchasing my trailer, I spent lots of time online researching, but for some reason focusing on black tank issues, procedures and care.
I heard many horror stories regarding issues that arise that newbies seem to have, but never really had any issue, possibly due to my dilligence in my research.
The only real issue I had was at a KOA just outside of Chicago, when I went to dump, and removed the cap, a bunch (gallon?) of waste came out, then stopped. I verified that the valve was shut, and never did find out what happened. I thought I might have a leaky seal, but this never happened since. Almost if someone played a practical joke, and opened my valve, and closed it again, with the cap holding it all in. Because of this, whenever I dump the tank, I always have a bucket ready whenever I remove the cap. Usually I only see a few drops of grey water drip out.
Other than this incident, I have never smelled anything from my black tank, either while dumping, nor in the bathroom, which always smells faintly of Tide/Calgon. Quite pleasant, and smells nicer than my restrooms at home. I really enjoy my time with my black tank, either when cleaning it out, or making a deposit. :) When I'm working in my yard, and need to "go", it's usually in the trailer.. As mentioned earlier, I make an excuse every day to go inside and do something or other.
Because of this obsession, I'm usually all over any thread on this this forum having to do with black tanks and/or toilets, and will even search for "black tank" to view older topics.
Am I weird? :) TMI?
