- ShinerBockExplorerThe Ram got whooped. Even though it had less horsepower, it really didn't help having a slow shifting Aisin with an inefficient cornverter in it.
I am not sure if Cummins will be going to CP4 or another pump to compete with GM and Ford's power numbers in the next gen engine. In order to make more power AND stay within emissions at that power level they will need more pressure than what the CP3 can put out. I would prefer them stay with the reliable CP3 and I can just add power with a tuner afterwards. The CP3 puts out more volume of fuel than the CP4 and can easily make up to 700rwhp, but just can't do it while staying within emissions spec like the CP4. - ScottGNomadI don't understand why they didn't smoke the 05 more.
Wonder if it's stock? ScottG wrote:

I would say the 5.9 was stock as it produced a normal amount of smoke. And it was by far the best sounding truck too. Less gears with high torque means it moves pretty fast.- ScottGNomad

If it's stock then my truck with tuner at 30 HP and 50 HP injectors would cream them all.
I would hate to spend $70K+ only to have a weaker truck but then again, drag racing is about the most idiotic way of measuring a trucks performance.
I would like to see heavy loads attached and then see how they do. ScottG wrote:

I have to deal with an older gentlemen from time to time who has a tuned Dodge that lives in my neighborhood who enjoys handing my azz to me. His truck is clearly faster because of a mild tune, and I wouldn't be surprised if it would out tow mine.- ShinerBockExplorer

A lot of that has to do with the Aisin. While it is a work horse of a transmission, it is a very slow shifting transmission and it's torque management calibration doesn't like WOT acceleration. This is why even though the Aisin trucks have more power and torque than the 68RFE truck, there is a much greater gap between the Aisin trucks versus GM and Ford in most races. The 68RFE trucks are generally within a second while the Aisin trucks are more then that behind the competition. - ScottGNomad

Interesting!
TM even holds back my 03. Puter doesn't allow full output until 3rd gear. Of course it's a percentage thing so adding HP means there's still more power in those lower gears. - 4x4ordExplorer IIIMy 03 Duramax is an absolute POS and just about useless when it comes to towing compared to the new trucks, but, it does 0-60 in 6.9 seconds with nothing but a Quadzilla tuner.
- Me_AgainExplorer IIIMy 2001.5 mildly tuned RAM(325/650-700 at the rear wheels) with custom tranny and tight TC would blow the doors off my 2015 HO, however I would not even consider going back. Hook up my 16K 5th wheel and the monster comes alive. Towing at 24.5K combine is child's play to the 2015.
- ACZLExplorerDuring the "rev" test, the older Ram sounded like an older Detroit.
