Opinions from 4x4 dually owners on tires

A lot of guys go with super singles instead of dual tires. These may give you the clearance.

I have always run the stock tires on all my duallys, never had a problem with my swing out brackets. NO clearence issues.

I also ran stock tires on our dually and swing out brackets. Unless your camper is really wide, won't you need to have the swing out brackets? Will you have to change out the wheels if you go to a smaller tire?

Wondering, beside the difference dia , how space gained between rears? I assume these extend past fenders? If wheels offset supply space you'd only gain half the difference in width of outer tire (1 1/2"?)
I'm running 235s have about 1 1/2" space between and outer is just shy of fender width

Ummm am I reading you don't have swing out brackets? Or did you mean fabricating extensions, for the swing outs?

That would be some awkward spacers.

Guessing he has a srw and didn't mean to put dually in the title......but then mentions 235 85s which are typical dually tires????
Those are some big honkin rears if it's a dual. Must have 3-4" wheel spacers or some wide dually rims in which case little old 235s would b too narrow for the rims.

In another thread the OP states his new truck is a F350 4x4 dually with 315's . Must have spacers , he didn't say if the wheels are OEM .

OP , if I might suggest , it might be better to keep all of these type questions in one thread as they are all related ( tire size , jack width , MPG ). The information you give in each thread is not complete and adding to the confusion . I think it would yield more helpful responses .

Sorry for the confusion and so many posts. I thought individual posts would net more responses with individual questions in the title. It is a dually and I have ordered the swingout brackets. Never owned anything other than stock so this is all new to me. I'm taking it in to the tire shop tomorrow for some recommendations. I'll probably go with stock tires if they'll work with these rims. If not I may have to fabricate an extention for the brackets. I'm just not sure how well the brackets would fold and lock while driving. I haven't actually seen them in use. Thanks for all the responses.

Are they stock wheels or aftermarket rims?
If stock, 315s are waaaaay too wide for those rims. OE rims for a dually of that era are prolly 6-7" wide.
If for some reason you need rims too, look for a stock set of takeoff ford wheels and tires on Craigslist. Typically can buy new or fairly low mile tires with rims for about the retail cost of the tires or rims alone.
Otherwise, yes go back to 235-85s or at most 255 wide tires.
