opportunity to purchase

I have the opportunity to purchase a wrecked and totaled popup real cheap.
the wreck bent the frame at the tongue and the whole back side of the Coleman popup has been destroyed. you can see into the PU.
it would need the "A" frame rebuilt at the hitch. the whole back side would have to be rebuilt some way. the guts are good shape.
Just wondering if anyone has done this type of thing before and is it worth my time to try and rebuild it. if this is just labor no big deal but done want to have to spend over 500 or so to do it all.
I can weld and have all the major tools to do woodworking. can do electric work too.
Just checking it out and see if this might be a doable project.
thanks

  • I wouldn't pay the owner anything for it. You are doing him/her a favor by hauling it off.

If possible, find out if the refrigerator works. It could have been damaged in the wreck.

One big problem that could get pricey is the canvas replacement.
  • You shouldn't have to pay anything for it. It's too damaged to have any value left.

If you're looking for a project find one that's in one piece and has decent canvas. You'll have something to start with. With the one you are looking at you are essentially building a new one.
  • That's going to cost quite a bit to fix, just in materials if I understand the damage.

I might grab it for parts to fix up a structurally sound one, but that's it. And in the condition you describe, it'd have to be free.

RUN, don't walk away from this one!
It will cost WAAAY more than $500 to fix it even if it could be fixed.

AND, anything with a bent frame is nothing more than a piece of junk that can not be restored to correct and it needs to go to the junk yard. Which is the reason the insurance company totaled it.

The owner got paid from the insurance company and you want to give him more money for his totaled RV.? I hope he is not your friend trying to put the screws to you! :W

There are plenty of older used fixer uppers out there for sale that your money would be better spent on. Keep looking you will find one that fits your budget. :C
