I can tell you that you absolutely do not want to go down many of the mountain passes here in BC while fully loaded at 55 mph.....
Thinking about this Kootenay Pass has reminded me of the first time I went over it with a fairly heavy trailer. I was pulling a 2003 Citation 34 rlts with an 03 Duramax (gross combined weight was likely around 22000 lbs) and no exhaust brake. The hill has a 1 mile section where the grade is 10% or more. The GM held the load back with zero brake application at about 40 mph.
